Nvidia is reportedly working on a new addition to its RTX 4070 lineup, called the RTX 4070 Super. This information was spotted by VideoCardz, who noticed that a well-known hardware leaker on X (formerly Twitter), MEGAsizeGPU, theorized the existence of two new versions of the RTX 4070.
According to MEGAsizeGPU, one of the new cards, the 4070 D6, will have the same specifications as the original 4070 but with a smaller form factor and the use of GDDR6 video RAM instead of GDDR6X. The second card, the RTX 4070 Super, will be based on the AD103 chip, which is currently used in the RTX 4080. This is a significant upgrade from the AD104 chip used in the current RTX 4070 models. The RTX 4070 Super is expected to have a 256-bit memory bus and 16GB of VRAM, compared to the 12GB found in the current models.
These spec changes could make the RTX 4070 Super a much faster and more powerful graphics card. In fact, it is already considered one of the best graphics cards from Nvidia. There have also been rumors of an RTX 4070 Ti Super, but we are skeptical of this theory as it may confuse Nvidia’s branding. Instead, simply calling the refreshed model an RTX 4070 Super would make more sense.
It’s important to note that while the RTX 4070 Super will use the same AD103 chip as the RTX 4080, it will not be as powerful. Nvidia will likely reduce the GPU’s capabilities to ensure that the RTX 4080 remains the top-tier option. Recent reports suggest that sales of the RTX 4080 have been disappointing, with many buyers opting for the RTX 4070 Ti instead. If the RTX 4070 Super proves to be even better, it could potentially overshadow the RTX 4080 and render it obsolete.
However, there is still uncertainty surrounding the speculations. The amount of CUDA cores and other specifications remain unclear, and the RTX 4070 Super might even be inferior to the RTX 4070 Ti in some aspects. We cannot be certain of anything until further information is released.
Despite this, it seems clear that Nvidia has plans to introduce new variations of the RTX 4070 in the future. The rumored vanilla RTX 4070 with lesser quality VRAM could also provide an opportunity for Nvidia to offer a more affordable option for consumers.
Overall, it will be interesting to see how Nvidia’s plans unfold in the coming months. These are all speculations and rumors for now, but we will keep a close eye on any new developments.
