Geekom Mini IT13: A Powerful Mini PC with Limitations

Geekom has introduced the Mini IT13, a mini PC that builds upon the concepts of its predecessors, the Mini IT12 and Mini IT11. However, despite featuring an impressive processor and support chipset, there are few noticeable differences between the IT13 and its predecessors.

The standout feature of the IT13 is its use of a mobile processor designed for battery-powered laptops. This processor operates on 45W of power, which limits the performance of the Mini IT13, particularly when using DDR4 memory. While the machine can be upgraded with additional memory and storage, it falls short of the capabilities of a desktop platform.

Nevertheless, the IT13 excels in providing flexibility, allowing it to serve files from external storage devices, function as a hardware firewall, and perform various tasks involving USB or Thunderbolt connections. However, it’s worth noting that despite featuring a Core i9 processor, it is not the fastest mini PC available. For those seeking the ultimate small system solutions, Geekom and others offer AMD Ryzen 9 systems.

In terms of pricing and availability, the Mini IT13 starts at $499/£449 and is currently available for purchase. It can be purchased directly from Geekom or from Amazon. In the UK, there are four different SKUs available, ranging from the Intel I5-12500H with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, to the flagship i9-13900H processor with 32GB and 2TB of onboard NVMe storage. The prices for these SKUs range from £499 to £699. In the US, there are three SKUs available, with the i7 model omitting the 2TB option. The prices for these SKUs range from $499 to $789.

The IT13 features an Intel Core i9-13900H processor with 14 cores and 20 threads, paired with Intel Iris Xe graphics. It comes with 32GB of LPDDR4X RAM (expandable to 64GB) and a 2TB Lexar NM7A1 NVMe M.2 2280 storage, with an additional unused M.2 2242 slot. The connectivity options include three USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports, one USB 2.0 port, two USB 4.0 Type-C ports, an SD card reader, two HDMI 2.0 ports, and a universal audio jack. It also features 2.5GbE LAN, WiFi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2. The Mini IT13 comes pre-installed with Windows 11 Pro and is powered by a 19V 6.32A PSU. Its dimensions are 117*112*49.2mm.

In terms of design, the IT13 closely resembles its predecessors, the Mini IT12 and Mini IT11. It features two USB Type-A ports, a headphone jack, and a power button on the front, while the rear houses additional USB ports, HDMI output, and a LAN port. Accessing the internals of the IT13 is straightforward, with four screws located beneath the rubber feet. The underside of the IT13 can be lifted to reveal the DDR4 memory slots and M.2 NVMe drive. The IT13 also includes a mounting plate for VESA holes and comes with a short HDMI cable.

The standout feature of the IT13 is its Core i9 processor, although it falls short of expectations in terms of performance compared to other mini PCs. This may be attributed to the Ryzen 9 processor used in Geekom’s AS 6 machine, which outperformed the Core i9 in most tasks.

Overall, the Geekom Mini IT13 offers a powerful mini PC solution with some limitations due to its mobile processor and power constraints. It provides flexibility for various tasks but may not be the fastest option available. Potential buyers can purchase the IT13 directly from Geekom or through Amazon.
