The co-director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Naoki Hamaguchi, recently discussed the upcoming sequel in an interview, emphasizing the desire for players to “feel more empathy with Sephiroth” during his playable segments. In this exclusive interview with Everyeye, Hamaguchi and producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed the details of remaking the 1997 classic and making changes to its story to appeal to a new audience. They also discussed how the gameplay has been expanded and refined from Final Fantasy 7 Remake. When asked about the decision to allow players to control Sephiroth during the game, Hamaguchi stated, “We wanted the player to feel more empathy with Sephiroth, and that’s why we believed that making him playable was the best way to create a bond with the user.” Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to launch on February 29, 2024, exclusively for PlayStation 5, and is essentially the second part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Furthermore, the RPG is expected to feature “nearly 100 hours of adventure,” and will not receive any DLC after release.
