Apple recently unveiled its “Year in Review,” which offers a Spotify Wrapped-style roundup for its Books app, giving readers a personalized summary of their reading habits in 2023. The feature provides fascinating facts and stats about the books read over the past year, including the most-read author and the total time spent leafing through literature.

To access the Year in Review, users simply need to open the Books app, select the “Read Now” tab, find the “Your Year in Review” card, and tap it. However, readers must have marked at least three books as completed to receive their reading summary.

To make the experience more engaging, Apple has created six “reader types” based on the way users read or listen to literature, such as “The Completionist” and “The Contemporary.” Additionally, Apple has revealed lists of the most-read books across all Books users, including top non-fiction and fiction audiobooks.

Apple has made it easy for users to share their reading info with friends by providing book cover collages, graphs, and statistics within the Books app. This sets it apart from Apple Music Replay, which offers a similar deep dive into music tastes but is hosted on Apple’s website instead of the app.

While Spotify’s Wrapped is right there at users’ fingertips in the app, Apple Music Replay requires additional steps to access, raising the question of why Apple built the Year in Review feature into its Books app but refrains from making Apple Music Replay an app-based feature.

Regardless, Apple users can now explore their year-end reading review right within the Books app and get insights into their reading habits in 2023.
