NASA and SpaceX collaborated on the successful launch of the 29th commercial resupply mission from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The mission, which took place on November 9, 2023, included a variety of scientific experiments, technology demonstrations, and supplies for the International Space Station.
The uncrewed Dragon spacecraft, carrying over 2950 kilograms of cargo and scientific hardware, is scheduled to arrive at the space station on November 11. Among the cargo are two major experiments, including the Atmospheric Waves Experiment and the Integrated Laser Communications Relay Demonstration Low Earth Orbit User Modem and Amplifier Terminal. These experiments will focus on studying atmospheric waves and laser-based communication.
In addition to scientific equipment, the Dragon spacecraft is carrying parts for monitoring the space station’s atmosphere, as well as a space tissue equivalent dosimeter to study radiation and the space radiation environment. Seasonal food for the crew on board is also part of the cargo. NASA officials have stated that the spacecraft will remain at the space station for about a month before returning to Earth with an estimated cargo of 1724 kilograms.
NASA will be live streaming the arrival of the Dragon resupply spacecraft to the International Space Station, beginning at 3:45 am EST on the NASA+ streaming service, as well as on NASA TV, YouTube, and NASA’s official website.
The International Space Station, which was launched on November 20, 1998, has been in lower Earth orbit for 24 years and is currently home to seven people.
